The Royal Wedding Hats!

Kate Middleton is known for her love of standout hats, or fascinators. This regal accessory was also a popular choice for attendees of her wedding to Prince William. Now don't get me wrong, I love hats too. They can be worn in so many ways, with so many different looks, both casual & formal. However, I do draw the line, & most of the hats worn by attendees of the Royal Wedding cross that line. You know, maybe its just me, I do like simple stuff. I just don't see why anyone would want to wear a forehead hat lol

 Here are some pictures.

The Royal Wedding Dress

Bride & Groom looking very happy.
I can't say that I have been waiting anxiously for this moment, but its here, so I am ready to embrace it. The Royal Wedding has been the most talked about event of 2011 so far. Everywhere you go, every television channel - its all been about The Royal Wedding

Royal bride Kate Middleton with her sister Pippa.
For me, well my main concern is the dress. And i must say, Kate Middleton did not disappoint. The beautifully blushing bride looked absolutely elegant in a long-sleeve lace, ivory and satin gown with flattering V neckline and 8-foot-long train, a simple lace-edged veil and understated (for royal standards) tiara sparkling over her half up, half down hairdo.

The beautiful gown was designed by Sarah Burton, the creative director of British fashion house Alexander McQueen! How fabulous is that! I think the dress was a perfect balance of modernity & tradition. She actually kinda reminded me of Grace Kelly.

The bodice and skirt's lace applique was handmade by the Royal School of Needlework, while the dress is made of ivory and white satin gazar. The pleated skirt was made to resemble an "opening flower", and the bodice, which was "padded at the hips, draws on the Victorian tradition of corsetry." Kate's ivory duchess satin heels were also courtesy of Alexander McQueen. And well, who can forget the bling. Queen Elizabeth II lent Kate the Cartier-designed "halo" tiara, and the teardrop diamond earrings were a personal gift from her parents.

All I have to say is beautiful :)

Lady GaGa covers Harpers Bazaar May 2011 issue

Pop icon Lady Gaga covers the May 2011 issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine which will be in stores very soon. Miss Gaga speaks about plastic surgery & what it is to be an artist.

She tells the magazine "I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have. I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification." Well Gaga, what's up with the cheek bones or whatever that it on your face? Is that not harmful artistic expression? Don't get me wrong here, I am a huge Gaga fan. I love her. She says plastic surgery is bad, but is her modifying her body with the cheek bone & shoulder  stuff good? I don't think so. I think that too is sending the wrong message to her fans, & may even lead to people wanting to look like her. She was so not "Born this way".

How to wear a shirt over Leggings

I am a huge lover of leggings. And as much as my better half dislikes them, they're still a staple in my wardrobe. Leggings do more than just provide some much needed coverage under a super-short skirt, but they also provide tummy control (which some may need, and others don't). But for me, what's best and most important about leggings is that they are comfortable.

Now that I have confessed my undying love for leggings, I'm going to tell you my pet-peeve when it comes to ladies and leggings : They don't wear the right top/shirt with them! Ladies, no matter how fabulous they are, they aren't pants, which means you have to be careful of your shirt length.

I am going to give you a few tips I hope will help.

1. Cover your butt.
When wearing leggings, you want to make sure all your bits are covered. Leggings are so super-fitted that if you wear a shorter top, you could look a little over exposed. However, don't wear a shirt that looks like a maxi dress over your leggings. Your shirt length should be below your butt, but still above the knee.

2.T-shirts
If you want to look more casual, opt for an over sized 'boyfriend-inspired' T. The great thing about an over sized T is that they're long, roomy, and just as comfy as the leggings. You don't want to wear a regular T-shirt with leggings. Add heels  if you want to dress up the look.

3. Tunics are fab
I love wearing tunics with leggings. It really looks great. What's especially nice about a tunic is that they are often a bit longer, and more roomier than regular shirts or tops. And what's even better is that the volume at the top balances out the fitted leggings at the bottom, so you will look balanced.

4. Blouses are dressy
Leggings are casual, are by all means cannot be worn everywhere. However, you can still dress them up so that they are appropriate for some outings. Adding a blouse will take your look up a notch. Try a white cotton blouse, or a more luxurious silk blouse. And don't forget a great pair of heels.

Loving Balmain

I just love this brand. Pierre Balmain founded his Parisian fashion powerhouse in 1945, and dressed such style icons as Ava Gardner and Brigitte Bardot. And after his death in 1982, a slew of designers including Oscar de la Renta took the helm, and the label is now under the creative leadership of Christophe Decarnin. The master of tough luxe, Balmain is the cool girl's destination for ornately embellished outerwear and spray-on leather pants.

Here are some pictures from Balmain's Fall 2011 Ready-To-Wear collection in Milan.

Loving the loosened-up silhouettes of this
fashion house's signature mini dresses.

I heart this skirt. Would die for it :)

This look is head-to-toe fabulous!

Loving this metallic leather peaked-lapel
blazer. Ice blue. Cool.

All I have to say is "Keep it coming"

Charlotte Ronson at New York Fashion Week

I must say I was quite surprised when I came across this collection by Charlotte Ronson, and actually like what I saw. I previously had it in my head that just was just another wealthy socialite who got famous for famous because her friends wore her clothes. Not true. I can appreciate her sense of design and style. I like wearable clothing, and that's exactly what this is. I could see myself in almost every piece of this collection. It's feminine, but not too feminine.

Love this floral dress.

I adore this over-sized grandpa cardigan.
It looks so cozy.

Love this look.

VERSACE Fall 2011 RTW

I absolutely loved Donatella Versace's presentation of the Versace Fall 2011 Ready-To-Wear collection at Milan Fashion Week.

This collection was simple and strong. I love the single, boldly coloured detail in the form of flowers, or vines situated on the back of a black shift. And the midnight leather jacket, not forgetting the matching box-pleated skirt. The evening wear was spectacular. I think the final glittering silver column dress, with the trail of white marabou was absolute perfection.

Overall, I loved the entire collection. However, I especially enjoyed the coats. And I'm not really a coat person. But these were so seductive, with the hint of military influence. The double breasted black coat and the white coat-dress were my favourites.

Brett's 5 Tips to Look Slimmer

Fashion trends can change overnight, but your body can’t, and so it’s important to know your body if you want to dress slimmer. The best part is that you can be comfortable and stylish while camouflaging lumpy bits & showing off your assets. And here’s how.

1. Dress your size
Wearing baggy clothes will do absolutely nothing for your figure. So don’t try hide it under baggy t-shirts and pants. Another mistake is to wear clothing that is way too tight for you. It will only expose what you are trying to hide.

This dress is loose fitted, but still her
size. It's covering her tummy & hips
without looking too big.

2. Create an Optical Illusion
Black and other dark colours are great it you are trying to look slimmer. Light colours will only emphasize an area. Also, if you’re short, you should wear pattern with vertical or diagonal lines as they draw the eye up and down, which will essentially make you look taller and slimmer.

The vertical & diagonal lines are drawing
the eye up & down rather than across.

3. Flaunt your best assets
Draw attention away from the areas you are self-conscious off by accentuating the areas you are proud off. Almost every woman’s décolletage is gorgeous so why not show yours off by wearing off-the-shoulder tops and scoop/boat necklines.

A woman's decolletage is always beautiful.

4. Watch your length

The length of the sleeve or hem on your top can do a lot for how you look, & inevitably feel. If you have bigger arms, wear tops with sleeves. The more volume on the sleeve, the thinner the rest of your arm will seem. Also, by keeping the hem of a top long (between your stomach & hips), it will hide any bulges while elongating your torso.

This length is perfect for a blouse.

5. Shapewear is your secret weapon

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wearing shapewear that flattens your tummy, or lifts your butt. Celebrities wear them all the time, & there isn’t any shame in trying to look your best, especially when there are no visible panty lines. Some women believe that it’s only for older or overweight women, but the truth is that it will benefit anyone. So why not try it?

This shapewear garment even allows you to wear your own bra,
while it flattens your tummy.

Hope this was helpful :)
